1 John 1:5 (NKJV)

1 John 1:5 (AMP)

1. What is Evil?

Theodicy: A defense of God's righteousness in the face of the presence of evil.

Negatio (Negation) and Probatio (Privation)

Negation: the contradiction or denial of something.

Privation: a state in which things that are essential for human well-being such as food and warmth are scarce or lacking.

The Westminster Catechism: Sin is any want of conformity unto, or transgression of, the law of God

“Want of conformity”(OMISSION) = NOT doing something we should do.

“Transgression of” (COMMISSION) = DOING something we should NOT do.

They then added the term actuosa; Meaning it is real and the effects are devastating.

Meaning: There is an active and real result of the evil we do.

Types of evil:

There is natural/physical evil: storms, hurricanes, disease, viruses to volcanoes.

There is supernatural evil: demonic activity, spiritual forces

There is moral evil: Sin
